Course Summary (Grade : 11 - 12)

Marketing and the Internet is a study designed to couple the marketing and economic skills students have mastered in previous marketing and/or business courses with the latest technology in marketing, sales, mass media, research, and customer service presentation techniques. The class will investigate the future of business on the Internet, study how e-business compares to traditional business, and find out more about the marketing strategies involved in promoting a business, and the laws affecting Internet businesses.

In addition to traditional businesses and their use of the Internet, students will learn about the structure of the Internet and basic design strategies to develop ‘sticky’ sites.

Course Objectives

  • Explain, compare, and incorporate the traditional marketing tools used in business with innovative tools available via the Internet
  • Understand the World Wide Web as a NEW business tool and explain how it can be incorporated into the various aspects of and existing business;
  • Research and analyze businesses currently incorporating the Internet as a strategy
  • Understand and analyze e-business and e-commerce
  • Identify collaboration, customer service, scalability, global marketing, and integration utilizing the Internet and World Wide Web as a business tool
  • Research and analyze the future of business on the Internet through data collection, research, comparison, and through analysis of Internet statistical information
  • Complete an Internet Marketing Plan and Virtual Storefront proposal for a local business with suggestions on incorporating the World Wide Web as a business tool.
